New Sentimag Probe for Royal Melbourne Hospital
The Sentimag probe allows breast surgeons to use magnetic tracers and seeds to localise breast lesions and lymph nodes that cannot be felt. It is part of a new way to do breast surgery. It is more comfortable for the patient and more accurate, so that less follow-up surgery is needed.
The new generation probe, which allows more precise surgery, was purchased with Treasure Chest’s support, and The Royal Melbourne Hospital is amongst the first hospitals in Australia to receive this advanced system.
This marks a significant step forward in breast cancer treatment and patient care. By using magnetic detection rather than traditional radioactive methods, the Sentimag system minimises discomfort, reduces procedural risks, and streamlines the surgical process. The improved accuracy not only enhances outcomes but also gives patients greater confidence as they undergo treatment.
Treasure Chest’s generous contribution has made it possible to bring this state-of-the-art technology to our hospital, and we are proud to be leading the way in offering our patients access to the latest in breast cancer surgery innovations.
